Indexing the files on your computer enables Windows to perform very fast searches in the locations where the files have been indexed. For more information about Windows 7’s search indexing feature, see our forum

@Britec09

I disabled it since it would trip AVG when I was using AVG. The search indexer was going through all my files to index them, when AVG would detect it doing that and would ask me to take action. On low end PC's, disabling the Search Index can give a performance boost

@james227uk So if you want to find data fast and you have terabytes of stuff which could take a while to find what your looking for if search index is disabled, also there is not that much of a improvement with search index disabled, still each to the own i suppose

@Susipis3s well when you have as many files as i have its very hard to find stuff so disable is not good for me. search index is a good tool so cant understand why people would want to disable it
